Trout in the Trym members Alex Dunn and Peter Coleman-Smith recently attended a two day get-together sponsored by the Wild Trout Trust. It was hosted in Keighley, Yorkshire by the River Worth Friends and was attended by numerous river groups and experts, all intent on restoring urban streams.
The attendees were treated to practical demonstrations including electro-fishing, assessing weir removal impacts and sampling/microscopic viewing of green algae. Peter reports that diatoms are beautiful!
Alex and Peter also heard talks and updates about projects on different rivers. The aim was to learn from others and to share what Trout in the Trym have done. They have come home with some ideas (such as an Outfall Safari) and will work out what they may be able to do locally.
