Recent riverfly sampling

Riverfly sampling in the Hazel Brook in Blaise Castle Estate, in Badock’s Wood and at Coombe Dingle has taken place in recently. All three sites yielded samples which were well above their site thresholds for reporting to the Environment Agency. Freshwater shrimps, olive and blue-winged olive nymphs (little mayflies) and a few caddis (cased and caseless) were found plus a couple of bullhead fish were in the net at Coombe Dingle.

However the sample scores remain low compared with what would be expected in a healthy stream. The data is now in the central Riverfly database and Peter Coleman-Smith will use it in the reports he provides to the City Council and Bristol Natural History Consortium later in the year.
