Excellent news – ten Combined Sewer Overflows to be upgraded

We have some excellent news to share with you. OFWAT (the water regulator) approved water company five year plans in the spring and subsequently the Local Environmental Delivery Plans (WINEP) have been published.

These show that Wessex Water will upgrade ten Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) affecting the River Trym by the end of 2030. A further 19 CSOs entering the Trym will be investigated by 2030, ahead of making improvements where needed. Less pollution will be fantastic news for nature on our doorstep and lessen smells sometimes encountered near the river.

For context, the ten CSOs to be upgraded spilled 350+ times in 2024 for hundreds of hours (Source: the Rivers Trust, Is my river safe to play in?)

If you suspect pollution please report it immediately giving the exact location (eg using What 3 Words or the Grid Reference), ask for a reference number and share a picture.
