Start the year taking action for eels. Sadly they really need it as they are down 90% since the 1980’s.
It’ll only take a couple of minutes to complete the change.org petition which is trying to stop the export of baby eels from UK to Russia.
The UK government (DEFRA) is considering permitting the sale of millions of elvers (baby eels) from Gloucester to Russia next spring. Already last year they allowed the export of 1 tonne (3 million individuals) of this critically endangered species.
Update 25/11/24 – Sustainable Eel Group report that the petition reached 50,000 signatures
