Fish migration obstructions in the Trym

Bristol Avon Rivers Trust have delivered their report on fish migration obstructions in the Trym/Hazel Brook, funded by the Bristol Avon Catchment Partnership. This builds on an initial assessment by the Wild Trout Trust in 2019 which made various recommendations including to look at the weirs.

A few key sites have been called out and the report has been shared with Bristol City Council. It’s possible some action on the priority weirs may be included in their Green Recovery Plan. This is not weir removal, but taking limited steps to improve fish passage (eels and trout) while retaining the character of the landscape. Similar work is being considered for the Frome. This is likely to be a slow process but most welcome when completed.
