Data from water companies via the Rivers Trust reveals far fewer sewage spills into the Trym last year. Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) were down 38% compared with 2024. The trend was similar for other rivers and streams in Bristol too which is great news – albeit mainly due to drier weather!
However, there were still thousands of hours of spilling and other measures continue to show that all is not well. Action must be taken to improve water quality, not just fixing CSOs but sorting other pollution too. Take a look at the report below.
Meanwhile we can all help our rivers by reporting pollution if we suspect it, never pouring chemicals/paint/oil down drains and binning (not flushing) pads or wet wipes down the toilet.
